Museum and a Movie – Craft in America: Threads

NCHGS’s Museum and a Movie series showcases independent, international, and historical short films relevant to our museum exhibits and the communities we serve. March 2025’s feature is “Craft in America: Threads”, a 2012 installment of PBS’s Peabody Award-winning documentary series. “Threads“ explores the inspirations, motivations, and passions of artists around the country as they explore themes of family history, navigating borders, and global citizenship. Two artists featured in this installment are Faith Ringgold, whose 2009 serigraph All Men Are Created Equal was on view at the Sigal Museum in 2022 as part of the Petrucci Family Foundation Collection of African American Art, and Consuela Jimenez Underwood, daughter of one of the first bracero works to come to the United States, from whom she inherited a passion for weaving. “Craft in America: Threads” is approximately one hour in length and will be shown at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 PM in the John R. Austen Auditorium of the Sigal Museum. This program is free to the public.
