Dates, dinner, love and marriage. Everyone has dreams of how they’d like things to go as they find and fall in love with their special someone. In the mid-1700s Moravian Community, however, the approach to romance and starting a family was quite different, unique and surprising.
Join us and be prepared to blush on “Love, Lust & Marriage,” an adults-only tour that reveals the intimate details about 18th century Moravian love, relationships and intimacy. Your guide, dressed in Colonial attire, will lead you through the Moravian Museum, located in the 1741 Gemeinhaus, to explore the early Moravians’ practices in love, courtship, marriage and physical intimacy, many of which were informed by their faith. You’ll learn about the Lot System, the significance of the Choirs, the role of coaches and, most importantly, what the blue cabinet meant.
