The Forest Primeval

The Forest Primeval is a live multimedia performance featuring three new short films by Daniel Paashaus and live scoring by Alex Luquet. The show uses video, photography, storytelling, and music to explore humanity's fraught relationships with nature and mortality. This is the second incarnation of the duo's live presentation and is accompanied by a week-long gallery installation featuring sculptural works, soundscapes, and a showcase of their past film collaborations. Alex Luquet is a musician and bass player from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He has scored and performed live with several short films while releasing original albums under the name Sailcloth. This music is meant to explore the spaces it was created and performed in with a focus on the timbres of the upright bass as a leading voice in the music. Daniel Paashaus is a multimedia artist specializing in film, photography, and sculpture, all with an emphasis on traditional physical and analog methods and a focus on self-portraiture. He works and creates in his studios on his small vegetable farm in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, releasing work under the name paas-haus. With a background in literature and philosophy, his visuals and stories are heavily rooted in the natural world, creating experimental film pieces in an intimate, personal voice.
