Frenchtown Bookshop welcomes Philadelphia Inquirer sports columnist Mike Sielski to celebrate the release of his new book, "Magic in the Air: The Myth, the Mystery, and the Soul of the Slam Dunk,” in conversation with award-winning sports journalist Dana O’Neil.
“Magic in the Air” explains how the slam dunk got its start in urban playgrounds and revolutionized the sport of basketball, allowing Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell to pave the way for a new generation of Black players and supporting the growth of the NBA into a global powerhouse.
Mike Sielski is also the author of the bestselling "The Rise: Kobe Bryant and the Pursuit of Immortality." The Associated Press Sports Editors awarded him first place in their annual column writing contest in 2015.
Sielski will be in conversation with award-winning sports journalist Dana O'Neil, now at Villanova University and previously at ESPN, the Philadelphia Daily News, and the NY Times. She is the author of three books, including a history of the Big East college basketball conference.
Free and all are welcome. Sports-friendly snacks will be served.
