Ironton Rail Trail Safety Day Event

This is an event focused on promoting the safe and enjoyable use of one of the region's most popular recreational resources. The Ironton Rail Trail spans 9.2 miles through Whitehall, Coplay, and North Whitehall Townships, offering opportunities for walking, running and biking while showcasing local history. Along the trail, visitors can view 12 historic cement mill ruins and 25 interpretive kiosks that highlight the area's industrial heritage dating back to the late 1800s. With an average of approximately 220,000 users each year, the trail continues to grow in popularity and attracts visitors from surrounding communities and neighboring states. Trail counters indicate a daily average of roughly 603 users, with significantly higher numbers during summer months. To ensure that all visitors can enjoy the trail safely, the Safety Day event will feature several activities and informational opportunities. Trek Bicycle Store of Allentown will be on=site displaying a variety of e-bikes, reflecting the increasing popularity of electric bicycles among trail users. Free bike safety checks and adjustments will also be offered during the event. In addition, free bike bells will be available to cyclists, with installation provided by Trek Bike Store personnel. Representatives from the Ironton Rail Trail organization will also be present to gather feedback from trail users about their experiences and to share updated trail etiquette guidelines that will be posted along the trail. Organizers encourage community members, cyclists, walkers and families to attend to learn about the safe trail practices, and enjoy a day celebrating one of the Lehigh Valley's most valued outdoor amenities.
