"Sights Unseen" - Public Opening Reception

The Berks History Center is thrilled to announce the grand opening of its latest exhibit, "Sights Unseen," taking place on Friday, January 24th, from 5 PM to 7 PM. This remarkable exhibition, a collaboration with the Vision Resource Center of Berks County, promises to offer visitors an inspiring and thought-provoking experience. The story behind "Sights Unseen" traces back to the 1970s when W. Marc Bernsau embarked on a pioneering project with four blind residents of Berks County. Equipped with cameras, these participants captured images in Reading, relying on their senses of hearing and smell. The exhibition showcases their photographs, revealing the unique perspectives and creative expressions of these individuals. In a revival of this project, the Vision Resource Center has engaged four contemporary participants to undertake a similar journey, creating a compelling narrative that bridges the past and the present. We invite you to join us for a memorable evening that promises to broaden your horizons and deepen your appreciation for the diverse talents within our community. As you explore the exhibition, you will encounter photography that challenges traditional perceptions and celebrates the unique experiences of those with visual impairments. Entry to the opening reception is through donations, which will not only grant you access to light refreshments but also allow you to explore the Berks History Center Museum’s three floors of exhibits. Your contributions will support both the Berks History Center and the Vision Resource Center of Berks County, ensuring that these vital stories continue to be shared and appreciated.
