Lehigh Valley Fiber Festival

Same great festival, but different location! Welcome the crisp air of fall with more than 65 artists and five organizations representing the full range of the fiber arts with hands-on demonstrations, food, music, and more to highlight the return of the Lehigh Valley Fiber Festival Sept. 21-22 at our new location of the Allentown Agri-Plex Charles Hall, 1950 Liberty Street, Allentown. Even with the new location, the festival remains free to attend and attracts more than 5,000 people annually. The festival is designed for both serious artists and new hobbyists alike, with something for everyone at the event. “The Lehigh Valley’s only fiber festival is so excited to be indoors this year. The last couple of years’ weather has not been kind. Being indoors means you can shop til you drop regardless of what it’s doing outside!” says Lehigh Valley Fiber Festival’s Co-Founder, Allison Mackenzie. “Having an indoor venue has also attracted some fabulous new artists to our show and we are excited to welcome them as well as our customer favorites, and whether they are new or veteran, we are proud of the quality and diversity they represent. We continue to host very talented local artists as well as those from the New England region including Virginia, New York & Maryland.” The festival is proud of its ‘farm to finish’ mission showcasing artists who farm the animals producing the fibers spun and dyed, to those upcycling finished pieces creating accessories and decoration, and everything in between. In addition to artists working in fiber, the festival welcomes artists who specialize in making work to complement the fiber arts such as wood-turned tools, glass buttons, ceramic yarn bowls, silver-smithed shawl pins, and jewelry using weaving and crochet techniques, providing something for everyone at the Festival. The popular fleece sale continues for the third year showcasing beautiful, natural fleece from a variety of sheep and alpaca, please see our website, https://lvfiberfest.com, for more information. New LVFF products will be available in the merchandise area, and demonstrations will take place throughout the weekend. We are happy to welcome the Second Saturday Spinners, LV Embroiderers, Mid-Atlantic Sock Knitters, and the Baahd Girls Sheep to Shawl team who will all be demonstrating their techniques and welcome customers to join in alongside them. We also have Valais at Stone Mountain, a New Jersey farm dedicated to raising the Valais blacknose sheep, bringing some of these adorable curly-haired breed prized for their gorgeous fleece and playful personality. The 2024 Lehigh Valley Fiber Festival features several new artists as well as many returning festival favorites. Skirted Fleece, Milanville, PA will return with their gorgeous yarns and tools; Little Loopy, Harrisburg, PA, is a new artist this year bringing hand-dyed yarns. Most artists will be indoors but some artist booths, demonstrations, and sheep will be outside under the pavilion. Birdsong Birdhouses, Nazareth, PA, will return with many new reclaimed wood items for the year, and Valais at Stone Manor Farm, Pohatcong Township, NJ, will bring the gorgeous and distinctive curly-haired Valais Blacknose Sheep. The Second Saturday Spinners will also be outside with antique and modern spinning wheels with tons of knowledge and a chance for you to try your hand at spinning. Demonstrations are a staple throughout the festival and this year is no exception. Spinning, knitting, weaving, hooking, and metalworking demonstrations take place throughout both days of the festival artists can be seen demonstrating their techniques and happy to answer questions. The Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Embroiderers Guild will have an exclusive Festival make & take embroidery project. Attendees may also learn directly from farmers who raise the sheep and alpacas that provide many of the yarns available at the festival. Whether you are new to the fiber arts, or you’ve been enjoying them for years, this is an opportunity to discover tips and techniques for knitting, crocheting, weaving, spinning, paper quilling, latch hooking, quilting, sewing, and more. LVFF kindly thanks its continued support from our sponsors The Knitter’s Edge in Bethlehem, and Steel Vintage in Allentown. The Lehigh Valley Fiber Festival is free to attend. Festival hours are Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information, visit http://lvfiberfest.com.
