Kate Brandes lives in the small river town of Riegelsville, Pennsylvania, with her family. Her writing weaves together many of her preoccupations including rural narratives, characters with a strong sense of place, the inner workings of small towns, and environmental issues that impact landscape, culture, and family dynamics. Kate has also worked as a geologist and environmental scientist for more than twenty years. She currently teaches creative writing and environmental studies at Moravian University, where she also co-directs the Moravian Writers’ Conference. Stone Creek is her second novel.
Shawn R. Jones was born in Hartford, Connecticut, and grew up in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She is a 2023 Civitella Ranieri Fellow, and her poetry collection, Date of Birth, won the 2022 Lexi Rudnitsky First Book Prize in Poetry. She is also the author of two poetry chapbooks, Womb Rain (2008) and A Hole to Breathe (2015). Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Tri-Quarterly, New Ohio Review, Callaloo, Rattle, Essence, Obsidian, Peregrine Journal, The Journal of Baha’i Studies, and elsewhere. She is the co-owner of Tailored Tutoring LLC and Kumbaya Academy, Inc., a dance instructor at Halliday Dance, and a member of the poetry performance troupe, No River Twice.
The Visiting Authors Series is supported by a grant from the Warren County Division of Cultural & Heritage Affairs. All physical site facilities comply with ADA regulations and are fully accessible. Sign language interpretation for any VAS event is available with two weeks’ notice.
