This 2.5-mile hike roundtrip offers a chance to hike around and on top of cinder cone volcanoes that erupted 200,000 years ago. This trail does not offer petroglyph viewing, however. There are restrooms in the parking lot, but no water. Bring plenty of water with you. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable hiking/walking shoes with good ankle support. Binoculars are helpful for viewing wildlife from a distance. Ask your local public library about borrowing birding kits. Meet at the Open Space Visitor Center located at the intersection of Bosque Meadows Road and Coors Blvd. From there, the group will drive to the Volcanoes Day Use area located off of Atrisco Vista Blvd across from Double Eagle Airport.
