City Nature Challenge: Guided Hike at Volcanoes Day Use Area

This hike will focus on spotting and identifying local flora and fauna as part of the annual, global citizen science project known as the City Nature Challenge. It encourages people to document local biodiversity through community science, using platforms like iNaturalist and Seek apps. The hike is roughly 2 miles roundtrip and traverses uneven terrain with loose rocks. Bring plenty of water with you. Vault toilets are available, but no water. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable hiking/walking shoes with good ankle support. Binoculars are helpful. Ask your local public library about borrowing birding kits. Meet at the Volcanoes Day Use Area parking lot, located off of Atrisco Vista Blvd.
