The 8th House — Albuquerque's beloved antiques, vintage, and fine art destination — opens July with something special: a solo exhibition featuring the work of mixed media artist Joseph Coventry, this month's Artist of the Month. Joe Coventry has been painting and drawing since he was four years old. Art came early and it stayed — through the demands of raising a family, through a forty-year nursing career, and through every season of a life fully lived. What emerged from all of that is a body of work that is impossible to reduce to a single word or style. His paintings are surreal and figurative, wildly imaginative and quietly human. They draw from music, from poetry, from the interior landscape of someone who has spent decades paying close attention to the world around him. Working in mixed media — paint, collage, and layered mark-making — Coventry builds images that feel both timeless and utterly personal. There is a dreamlike quality to his figures, a sense that each piece holds more than what's immediately visible. These are paintings you return to. Art that grows with you. This exhibition marks Coventry's debut at The 8th House, and it is the kind of introduction worth showing up for. On View: July 3 – July 31, 2026 The 8th House is open weekends only, which means only a handful of opportunities remain to experience this show in person before it closes. 📍 5100 Grand Ave. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108 🕐 Fridays & Saturdays: 10 AM – 5 PM 🕐 Sundays: 10 AM – 3 PM ✨ Meet the Artist — Friday, July 24 | 5–7 PM On Friday, July 24, Joe Coventry will be at The 8th House in person for a special Meet the Artist evening. Guests are invited to come early, stay late, enjoy drinks and treats, and spend time in genuine conversation with the artist himself. These evenings are relaxed, welcoming, and memorable — a chance to understand the work more deeply and, for those moved to do so, to collect directly from the artist. No tickets. No formality. Just good art, good people, and a genuine connection to the creative process. Support local art. Invest in something that lasts. 🌐 T8H.org 📲Instagram: @t8habq 📲Instagram: @josephcoventryart
