"I Am Music"

Landini was the most important Italian composer of the century. Blinded by smallpox as a child, he nevertheless became an organist and composer. He also played lute and recorder and was an organ builder, astrologer, music director, singer, poet, and an intellectual who took part in philosophical, religious and political debates. His works were described at the time as having a dolcezza (“sweetness”) unequalled in the melodies of other composers, and one writer claimed that his organ playing was so beautiful that birds flocked to add their songs to his music. The performers of Música Antigua are Hovey Corbin, Dennis Davies-Wilson, Ruth Helgeson, Curtis Storm, Colleen Sheinberg and Art Sheinberg. The program will be performed with historic instruments, including Landini's favorite, the portative organ, or organetto.
