This hike will focus on spotting and identifying local flora and fauna as part of the City Nature Challenge (CNC), an annual global event that encourages people to document local biodiversity through community science, using platforms like iNaturalist. The hike is 2.2 miles roundtrip with no shade. There are vault toilets in the parking lot but no water. Bring plenty of water with you. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable hiking/walking shoes with good ankle support. Binoculars are helpful. Ask your local public library about borrowing birding kits. Meet at the Rinconada Canyon parking lot, at the intersection of Unser Blvd and St. Joseph’s Avenue.
