Gordy Johnson Quartet Featuring Rob Wilkerson
A recent arrival from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Gordy Johnson has brought a wealth of experience and high level of expertise to the Northern New Mexico Jazz Community. Throughout the ‘70s & ‘80s Gordy toured extensively with Gene Bertoncini, Roy Buchanan, the Maynard Ferguson Orchestra, Chuck Mangione, Doc Severinsen, and the Paul Winter Consort. His bass playing can be heard on hundreds of recordings, national jingles & film scores in addition to five of his own critically acclaimed Jazz Piano Trio CDs featuring a variety of internationally known pianists and drummers: "Gordon Johnson TRIOS". He has also appeared with Randy Brecker, Rosemary Clooney, Bob Dorough, Herb Ellis, Benny Golson, Slide Hampton, Shiela Jordan, Stacey Kent, Peggy Lee, Delfeayo & Ellis Marsalis, Jay McShann, Maria Muldaur, Dewey Redman, Marlena Shaw, and Toots Thielemans. A home-grown talent, UNM graduate, and participant in the Outpost Youth Education Program, Rob Wilkerson, is one of a handful of young Albuquerque musicians who has made it onto the national stage. For seventeen years Rob toured the world with Michael Buble and lived in New York for twenty one years, stacking up a list of credentials that most musicians can only dream of: Darcy James Secret Society, the Alan Ferber Big Band, Jihye Lee Orchestra are just some on his jazz list. In the classical world he was featured with The Chelsea Symphony in NYC and performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra in 2018. In addition to all that Rob has over two dozen recordings to his credit and two as a leader. Rounding out the rhythm section will be Bob Fox on piano and John Trentacosta on drums.
