The theme for this concert is an homage to the symbolism of the Rose (Mary) being the vessel by which Jesus is brought into this world. We have chosen a song which comes from the Trinity Roll Carols that is believed to have originated from around 1420. Some of the carols in this collection are a tribute to Henry V’s victory over the French in 1415 at Agincourt. Others are carols that are macaronic, blending the English of the day with Latin phrases. The specific carol we chose is “There is no Rose” which has been set by many composers like the traditional one as well as versions by Kevin Memley and Philip Stopford, and these pieces are interwoven throughout our concert.
