After a year dedicated to the U.S. elections and an emphasis on democracy, the Disrupt Film Series returns in 2025, delving into how political corruption affects various facets of society worldwide, including social, health, and environmental issues, highlighting its extensive implications. Throughout the year, we will host four events, each featuring a compelling documentary and live discussions with remarkable guest speakers. Prepare for a program rich in reflection, analysis, and the sharing of ideas.
Marking the 5th anniversary since the WHO declared the COVID-19 pandemic, we are honored to open up our series with the Brazilian documentary OUT OF BREATH. Directed by Helena Petta and Ana Petta, the film provides a nuanced look at the pandemic through the lens of care, showcasing the collective battle against COVID-19 through interviews with doctors, nurses, and community workers. With this documentary, we hope to facilitate a discussion about the largest public health crisis in history, addressing questions related to the healthcare system, political management during crises, social disparities in healthcare access, and more.
OUT OF BREATH has won international recognition and was shortlisted for the Oscars in 2023. You now have a chance to watch the film for free* and join us on Thursday, March 27th, at 8 PM (EST) for a live roundtable discussion with director (and Doctor) Helena Petta and other distinguished guests.
*Access to registrants only. Link and instructions to view the film will be sent via email upon registration.
**The DISRUPT Film Series is the Museum of Political Corruption's quarterly film screening and discussion series that features impactful films and in-depth discussions about critical contemporary issues. Through the lens of some of the biggest political filmmakers and journalists, along with commentary by a slate of good government advocates, DISRUPT seeks to further MPC's mission to empower and educate the public by presenting socially-relevant films and engaging conversations about corruption, honest governance and everything in between.
