Atmospirit duo
Atmos derives from the Greek ἀτμός (atmós) meaning “vapor,” and spirit comes from the Latin spiritus, meaning “breathing.” Flutist Melanie Chirignan and pianist Melanie Hardage have collaborated as an improvisational duo since 2023. They began by using classical works as a foundation for improvisation and soon discovered new possibilities for exploring musical ideas that move beyond the Western art music tradition.
The duo performs interactive programs throughout the Capital Region and in New York. Their music is defined by layered modal textures on the piano paired with floating, interwoven flute melodies.
