Carrie Haddad Gallery presents Uncanny Perceptions, an exhibit that delves into realms of the unknown, where scale becomes distorted, and otherworldly phenomena challenge awareness. Paintings by Ann Getsinger, Carl Grauer, India Sachi, and sculpture by Dai Ban offer a pictorial style dependent on clear, simple structure and great psychological penetration to reveal the inward experience and subtle shades of human nature. The works on view compile a striking visual exploration of the subconscious via dreamlike and surrealist juxtapositions. Imaginative, skillful and utterly bizarre – you must see for yourself! The exhibit opens April 11 through June 1st. All are welcome to join us for a reception for the artists on Saturday, April 12 from 5-7pm.
Dai Ban is a fine artist and sculptor who studied at the Musashino Art University before settling in New York City and finally the Berkshires in 1993. Ban’s work is inspired by natural forms and organic shapes. These sharp and rounded pieces are both cutting and comforting – reflecting moments of great stillness and balance. The delicately molded sculptures unfold in response to the artist’s unconscious feelings and subverted impressions to create expertly crafted relics of human memory and emotion.
Through rounded canvases Carl Grauer gives glimpses between worlds - into spaces where physical and spiritual realms become one liminal space. Within these “star-scapes”, Grauer takes a stance of active observation, purposefully connecting feelings of loss and recovery as he battles through his grief and existential awakening. These oil paintings explore transformation as living things move from one stage of the life cycle to the next – reincarnated as new beings with the same raw celestial materials. Born in rural Kansas, Grauer completed their bachelor's degree in Human Biology from the University of Kansas and their MFA in Medical Illustration from the University of Michigan. They spent two years in London studying figurative and portrait painting with several studios and garnered success showing work both nationally and internationally.
India Sachi graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2022 with the Florence Leif Award. In her practice, Sachi experiments with both painting and photography to interpret the relationship between collective memory and the human form. By incorporating mystic symbols and semiotic principles into her imagery, Sachi brings a new perspective to themes of autonomy, folklore, and beauty – subverting personal experience with notions of public perception.
Ann Getsinger is an oil painter with a home and studio is in the rural Berkshire town of New Marlborough, Massachusetts. After high school she studied at Paier School of Art in New Haven, CT, and at the San Francisco Art Institute, before settling permanently in western Massachusetts. Getsinger’s vanitas inspired works bring flora and fauna to life and narrate their symbolic internal experience. Ambiguous light sources and vibrant colors pull viewers into these hyper-realistic still lives to marvel at expressive details and imaginative compositions.
Uncanny Perspectives features new works from artists Ann Getsinger, Dai Ban, and Carl Grauer who have exhibited with Carrie Haddad Gallery throughout the gallery’s long history, alongside with works from an artist new to Carrie Haddad Gallery, India Sachi. Carrie Haddad Gallery is located at 622 Warren St. in Hudson, NY. Open daily from 11-5pm (closed Mondays). Contact info@carriehaddadgallery.com with questions or inquiries.
