“Good Books for Good Works” Fundraiser Will Benefit North Albany Middle School
The Woman’s Club of Albany and the Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza will co-host the 19th annual “Good Books for Good Works” from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, at the Book House in Stuyvesant Plaza. The event supports Capital Region urban and rural school libraries by raising funds for new books. A percentage of sales during the evening will be donated to the library of the North Albany Middle School of the City School District of Albany. The school serves over 400 students in grades 6-8.
The event begins at 4 p.m. The highlight of the evening begins at 5:30 p.m. when Book House staff members discuss their suggestions for both children’s and adults’ books. Lively and insightful, the staff presentations feature all genres for all ages.
The project is one of many community-oriented programs sponsored by The Woman’s Club of Albany, a philanthropic and civic organization founded in 1910. For more information about the organization, visit womansclubofalbany.com. “We are extraordinarily fortunate to have a long-standing partnership with a business owner like Susan Novotny and the Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza to help us support literacy in area schools, a major goal shared by the Woman’s Club and the Book House,” noted Paula Hennessy, Woman’s Club president.
Through years of volunteerism, community outreach and charity, the staff of the Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza, along with The Little Book House (located within Book House) and Market Block Books in Troy, have made the store a special contributor to the community. In business for over 40 years, the Book House is home to more than 40 book clubs, a regular host of readings by local and nationally recognized authors and a charter member of Capital Region Local First.
The public is invited to attend this delightful evening to celebrate the joy of reading and support literacy. There is no fee to attend. Please join us and bring your friends!
